Frice
The Fearsome WeatherGen of Frost

To say that Frice is my favourite WeatherGen is a complete understatement - I'm pretty sure I have bored everyone who knows me to tears with my adoration of the Friceman...but I can't help myself! Frost has always been one of my favourite weather conditions to start with, and from the moment I first saw this icy chap on on TV he immediately gained a special place in my heart!
Frice's name - a portmanteau of frost and ice, competed with Norwin for title of "scariest WeatherGen" - that is if the rumours about young children being scared when the idents first aired are to be believed.

Frice was played by an actor called Anton Blake (above). He won the role of Frice due to having large green eyes...however the director of the project Rob Kelly decided that they should look blue.
During filming as Frice, Anton was required to wear reflective contact lenses, which in his own words, were "extremely painful and difficult to see through." The many icicles on his face were actually created from plastic icicle-shaped Christmas tree lights!
Frice's frosty hair was also uncomfortable for Anton as it consisted of a large headdress that was clamped onto his neck, leaving him unable to turn his head. Anton remarks on how unpleasant this is in the behind-the-scenes video.
Although only Frice's head is visible in the ident, Anton was actually wearing a costume which consisted of pointed boots, trousers and a jumper/coat with adorned with long dangling icicles. He also carried an "ice sceptre" - this was actually a pipe attached to a canister of carbon dioxide which was sprayed copiously around throughout filming to give that authentic looking frosty air!
You'll also notice that in the finished ident Frice appears blue, but in the behind-the-scenes footage, his costume and make-up was white, with transparent icicles. Special lighting and camera filters gave him the blue look.

In my books, Frice is known as the Lord of Winter and his powers are strongest during the winter solstice. He is also deeply in love with Crystella, and this forms a major plot arc in the first novel. Despite his fearsome reputation as a cold-hearted and moody character, Frice is actually a kind-hearted WeatherGen - the strong, silent type. He cares deeply for his fellow WeatherGens, as demonstrated by his love for Crystella, although he is shy about revealing his feelings to her at first. Frice is also modest about his abilities and hates to boast. Many of the other WeatherGens have a strong admiration for him. However he doesn't get on well with Norwin - the two have been fierce rivals for centuries!
